The Historical Preoccupation with Execution

For most of crypto’s history, blockchains have been monolithic. One chain does everything: execution, consensus, settlement, and data availability. That proof says “these 2,000 trades happened correctly.” But if Ethereum’s calldata is expensive and limited, the rollup might post only a hash of the data, not the full transaction history. Now, users can’t independently verify what happened. They must trust the rollup operator.

Celestia changes this. The rollup posts its full transaction data to Celestia’s data availability layer, which is orders of magnitude cheaper than Ethereum calldata. Any light node can sample that data to confirm it was published. The rollup’s execution is still fast, but now its integrity is verifiable by anyone. Trust is replaced by cryptographic proof.
